Drum Workshop Presents "An Evening with Terry Bozzio and Chad Wackerman" Live
at Musician's Institute in Hollywood. Let's check it out.
Bozzio and Wackerman
After 15 years of playing drum clinics, Terry Bozzio wanted to put together
something that was a little different. So he decided to book a USA
clinic tour bringing along his friend, and fellow stickman,
Chad Wackerman. Each clinic consisted of Terry and Chad playing for
about an hour each followed by some duets together. And,
because both of them had worked with Frank Zappa and had the experience
of playing the infamous "Black
Page #1," they decided to play it together as a duet!

All Sevens - Chad opens with a tasty solo in seven.
Bash - Back in common time, Chad stetches out on a tom
based solo layered on top of a double bass ostinato.
Terry Bozzio
Harmonic Etude - Terry opens up with a composition that
he wrote, which features what he is widely known for - his massive drum
arsenal featuring his toms tuned over the entire chromatic
scale.
Terry & Chad Together
Here we get to see them both play Frank Zappa's infamous "Black
Page #1" as a duet while following along with the actual drum
chart on the screen. Cool!
The main section of the first DVD in the set concludes with Terry and Chad playing two combination duest that are partially structured and partially improvised.
Terry Bozzio Live In Concert
The second DVD in this 2-DVD set, features Terry Bozzio live in concert playing
an extended solo that combines the technical with the musical side of drumming
and, of course, features the massive drumkit that is Bozzio's trademark.

Segments
Each of the DVDs features two mini-documentaries on the making of
DW Drums. Once covers their premier line DW Drums and
the other covers their lower priced
PDP Drums. which are produced in Mexico under the same high quality standards
as the top of the line DWs made in the USA. These documentaries not
only detail the process of making these fine instruments but feature a
number of the world's leading drummers that play them. More than
just a manufacturer's advertisement, these videos offer an education
in drum making. I found them very interesting. Check them out for yourself.
Bottom Line: Solos & Duets
2 DVD Set
Fans of Terry Bozzio and/or Chad Wackerman can't go wrong with this
2-DVD set. Terry and Chad work flawlessly together proving
that drum solos and duets can be musically interesting as well as
technically exciting. Even non-fans will find much of interest in
the solo and duet work of these two fine musicians.
I highly recommend this 2-DVD Set, well worth its retail price of $29.95 and, as usual, available at a substantial discount from TigerBill's Drum Shop.
