Tiger Bill Reviews: A Rhythmic Murder Mystery DVD by Wes Crawford I have always been big on creativity. In the introduction to my first
book DoubleDrum: A Double Bass Drum Text (first published in
1978) I
dedicated it to "A Future of Fresh Creative Thinking Super-Drummers."
Well a while ago I received a DVD called A
Rhythmic Murder Mystery from drummer/educator Wes Crawford
and the first thing that struck me was the creativity behind
it. It was fresh, original, and fun to work with. Let's check
it out in a bit more detail. Music and Games 4 U This unique slant on the popular game/movie CLUE is fun and challenging. The clues are embedded in a series of original solo electronic drum pieces composed and played by Wes. To be successful, you really have to listen carefully as Wes plays each solo. Which is not at all unlike what you will need for success in performing with a band! Wes based this DVD on an interactive concert performance that he originally developed to promote better listening skills for musicians. The DVD allows you to experience the entire mystery, select specific chapters, or just enjoy the drum solos minus the narrative parts. Bottom Line: A Rhythmic
Murder Mystery So I recommend A Rhythmic Murder Mystery to all drummers, regardless of experience level, who are looking to sharpen their listening skills while having some fun at the same time. The game is a blast when played with others but can also be used alone. It's price of $19.99 represents a good value. And while you're at it, check out the other creative and interactive musical goodies on Wes Crawford's site Music and Games 4U. Until next time: Get creative, have fun, and stay loose!
