April 1, 1954. Died: August 5, 1992. I first met Jeff Porcaro and his
Dad, Joe, in Los Angeles in 1979. Years before, when Joe left his low-paying
orchestra gig in Connecticut, he never dreamed he and his son would
do so well out in California. Unfortunately, Jeff was only 38 years
old when he passed away from inhaling poisonous fumes while working
in his garden. But from his start playing drums for Sonny and Cher
in his early teens up until his untimely death, Jeff was one of the
