Gannin Arnold Project
5 World Class Drummers
DVD
A DW DVD distributed exclusively by Alfred Publishing
When guitarist Gannin Arnold first dreamed up this project, he didn't think it would actually happen. No one was more surprised when the five world class drummers Gannin asked to be a part of it all said yes!
Let's check out this DW two disc DVD set.
It's All About Interpretation
The main idea behind this project was to have several different world class drummers each play the same song
so drummers could have the chance to study their interpretations. The end result is a DVD-Set that includes 3
hours and 20 minutes of band performances and artist interviews. In addition to the five world class drummers
used on the project, the other three musicians in the band (Gannin Arnold on guitar, Bill Mohler on
guitar/bass and Tim Landers on bass) each play drums as well, so everyone is rhythmically sound. All five
drummers are also composers so all eight musicians interconnection seamlessly. Note: Adam Benjamin plays keys
on the Jimmy Chamberlin segment.
The Shared Songs:
Not from Here
This song is played by each of the five drummers.
Drop Out
This one is performanced by both Taylor Hawkins and Simon Phillips.
Get On With It
Gary Novak and Jimmy Chamberlin both play this one.
The remaining songs aren't duplicated by each drummer.
Bonus Tracks
Jimmy Chamberlin and Simon Phillip each play an additional two songs and all five drummers are
featured up close and personal, using overhead cameras.
Special Features
Includes interviews with each of the drummers and DC DVD Trailers.
Bottom Line: 5 World Class Drummers DVD
I like the idea behind this project. The Bottom Line is that this DVD-Set provides a glimpse into the various
musical interpretations of five world class drummers and will give drummers of all styles much food for
thought when developing their own interpretations of the included songs. The only thing missing that I would
have liked would have been the inclusion of each song minus the drum track for play-along practice.
While a solid value at its retail price of $24.95, this DVD can be found online at an even better bargain:
